Join us in Dublin as a Legal Counsel

  • This is an opportunity for a passionate and driven Legal Counsel to join us at Ulster Bank's Legal department
  • You'll be owning, managing and supervising legal risks, ensuring mechanisms are in place to identify, report, manage and mitigate risk within a defined risk appetite

What you'll do

You'll be supporting the delivery of our legal strategy, working with stakeholders and legal colleagues to ensure the timely, effective and efficient delivery of all issues, projects and initiatives. You'll be managing and coordinating the delivery of legal advice to the bank which also fulfils the second line of defence risk management responsibilities.

It'll be your responsibility to ensure all legal support complies with Legal Policy and the legal and regulatory framework within which the bank operates. As such, you'll identify, evaluate and escalate reputational risk issues to relevant business management and other control areas.

You'll also:

  • Manage external advisers and other stakeholders in successfully delivering Ulster Bank transactions and projects on a timely basis
  • Deliver expert, accurate and cost effective legal advice to the bank ensuring it is readily understandable to non lawyers, delivered within relevant timescales
  • Strive for continuous improvements in the operating practices and processes of the Ulster Bank Legal team, identifying efficiencies, improvements and opportunities to reduce costs
  • Manage and deliver the communication of internal and external legal advice and input on transactions and projects to stakeholders in the bank in a commercial, user friendly and efficient manner

The skills you'll need

You'll have experience providing legal and commercial advice in relation to transactions and projects in-house or in a law firm, and experience of working with leading law firms and other professional advisers and consultants. You'll need a good academic record, knowledge of the financial services industry, and ideally prior experience of financial services law and regulations.

You'll also need:

  • Experience working autonomously to prioritise your own and your team’s workload
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to tailor communication to different sets of stakeholders
  • Experience building strong business relationships in a changing environment
  • Organisation skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritise work
  • Knowledge of the operation of a regulated business and the implications of change
  • Knowledge of risk management measures, controls and related issues
