The Business

Join us in Dublin as a Legal Counsel

  • This is an opportunity for a passionate and driven Legal Counsel to join us at Ulster Bank's Legal department
  • You'll be owning, managing and supervising the legal risks, ensuring mechanisms are in place to identify, report, manage and mitigate risk within a defined risk appetite

  • This role is available for a 12 month period

What you'll do

You'll be managing and coordinating the delivery of legal advice, and participating as a member of Ulster Bank Legal, supporting the establishment, development and maintenance of a prudent and effective risk management framework and culture across Ulster Bank Legal.

It'll be your responsibility to ensure all legal support complies with Legal Policy and the legal and regulatory framework within which the bank operates. You'll identify, evaluate and escalate reputational risk issues to relevant business management and other control areas.

You'll also:

  • Manage external advisers and other stakeholders in successfully delivering Ulster Bank transactions and projects on a timely basis
  • Deliver expert, accurate and cost effective legal advice to the bank ensuring it is readily understandable to non lawyers, delivered within relevant timescales
  • Strive for continuous improvements in the operating practices and processes of the Ulster Bank Legal Team including identifying efficiencies, improvements and opportunities to reduce costs
  • Manage and deliver the communication of internal and external legal advice and input on transactions and projects to stakeholders in the bank in a commercial, user friendly and efficient manner

The skills you'll need

You'll need strong legal experience, preferably in house, and experience of managing defence litigation is desirable, preferably in the financial services area. You'll need a good academic record and knowledge of the financial services industry.

You'll also need:

  • Experience of working autonomously to prioritise your own and your team’s workload
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to tailor communication to different sets of stakeholders
  • Experience of working and building strong business relationships in a changing environment
  • Organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritise work
  • Knowledge of the operation of a regulated business and the implications of change
  • Knowledge of risk management measures, controls and related issues
